Tracking curriculum coverage

Once you have a curriculum framework and have tagged your scenarios with its topics, SimChat can show you which topics your learners have covered. This helps you see where there are gaps in practice across a cohort or for an individual learner.

What coverage means

A topic is covered when a learner has completed a session on a scenario tagged with that topic. Abandoned or cancelled sessions do not count.

SimChat shows two related measures:

• Authoring progress - how many topics have at least one scenario mapped to them. On a curriculum page, this appears near the top as a count such as "12 of 40 topics have scenarios mapped". This tells you whether your content covers the curriculum on paper.
• User coverage - how many topics learners have actually completed in practice. This tells you whether your learners have practised those topics.

Organisation-wide coverage

To see coverage across all learners in your organisation:

1. Open Curriculum in the sidebar
2. Select a curriculum framework to open its detail page
3. Scroll to the User coverage section

The table lists each domain with covered and total topic counts and a percentage. Select a domain row to expand it and see individual topics (green badges show covered topics; grey badges show topics not yet covered).

If no learners have completed scenarios tagged to this curriculum yet, SimChat shows a message explaining that coverage will populate as conversations are completed.

Coverage for a cohort or individual learner

For a focused view of one cohort or user, use the Activity page:

1. Open Activity in the sidebar
2. Scroll to the Curriculum coverage section
3. Use the user or cohort filter at the top of that section to select who you want to report on
4. If you have more than one curriculum, use the Curriculum dropdown to narrow the report (optional)
5. Select Full report + export to open the detailed coverage page for that person or cohort

Until you select a user or cohort, SimChat prompts you to choose one above the coverage table.

The summary table on Activity matches the organisation view: domains, percentages, and expandable topic rows showing whether each topic is covered, First covered date, and Covering scenarios (links to the scenarios that contributed).

Linking a cohort to specific curricula

When you create or edit a cohort, you can link it to one or more curricula under Curricula (on the cohort form):

1. Go to Cohorts in the sidebar
2. Create a new cohort or edit an existing one
3. Under Curricula, tick the frameworks you want coverage reports to focus on
4. Save the cohort

If you leave all curricula unchecked, coverage for that cohort uses all active curricula in your organisation.

Cohort coverage reports opened from Activity respect these linked curricula. If a cohort has no curricula linked and none exist yet, the full report page explains that you need to link a curriculum from the cohort edit page or create one first.

Exporting coverage reports

On a cohort or user coverage page (opened via Full report + export), use the buttons at the top:

• Export Excel - spreadsheet with one sheet per curriculum framework in scope
• Export PDF - printable report

If more than one curriculum is in scope, use the Curriculum dropdown on that page to filter before exporting.

These exports are useful for assessment records, programme reviews and reporting to others.
