Choosing voices and video avatars

When you enable audio or video mode for a scenario, you choose the voice and avatar the AI character uses. You do this in the Key details step of the scenario creator.

Audio conversations use audio minutes and video conversations use video minutes. See Understanding audio and video minutes.

Choosing a voice for audio mode

When Audio mode is enabled, a Voice option appears. A voice is required for audio scenarios.

  1. Select Choose voice (or Change voice to replace the current one)
  2. Browse the available voices. Use Preview to listen to a sample.
  3. Select the voice you want

The voices on offer are matched to your organisation's country and language, so learners hear an appropriate accent.

Speech speed

For some voices you can adjust the speech speed with the slider. 1.0x is the default; lower values slow the voice down and higher values speed it up.

Choosing an avatar for video mode

When Video mode is enabled, an Avatar option appears. An avatar is required for video scenarios.

  1. Select Choose avatar (or Change avatar to replace the current one)
  2. Choose an avatar from the picker

If an avatar you previously selected is no longer available, SimChat will ask you to choose a new one.

Choosing a voice for video mode

For video mode you can also set a Voice, but it is optional. If you leave it empty, SimChat automatically selects a voice that suits the avatar.

You can adjust the avatar's speech speed with the slider in the same way as audio mode.

Custom voices and avatars

Enterprise organisations can use their own custom AI voices and custom video avatars. These appear alongside the standard options in the voice and avatar pickers. To discuss custom voices or avatars, contact us at support@simchat.ai.
