Creating scenarios using the scenario creator

The scenario creator allows you to build scenarios step by step using an interactive editor. It guides you through defining the scenario type, writing the script, adding a checklist and configuring how learners will interact with the AI character.

You can save your scenario as a draft at any time. When you are ready to make it available to your learners, select Publish.

This article explains each part of the creation process so you can design effective and realistic learning experiences.

You can also generate scenarios using the SimChat AI scenario generator

Key details

Start by entering the core information about your scenario.

Scenario type

Choose the scenario type. This determines how the AI character behaves and how the conversation unfolds. SimChat includes five scenario types by default (history taking, counselling, customer service, interview and explanation).

Organisations can also create their own custom scenario types if they need more control over the AI behaviour.

Title, description and icon

Add a title and description. These will be visible to learners before they start the scenario. You can also choose an optional icon to help identify the scenario in lists and collections.

Interaction modes

Select how learners can interact with the AI character:

  • Text: Learners type their responses and receive text-based replies
  • Voice: Learners speak with the AI character using real-time voice interaction
  • Video: Learners interact with an AI-generated video character

Video mode uses video minutes, which organisations need to purchase separately.

User instructions

User instructions are shown before the scenario begins. They should clearly explain:

  • The purpose of the scenario
  • The learner’s task or goal
  • Any important context they need before starting

Clear instructions help learners understand what they are expected to do and make the scenario more focused.

Scenario script

The scenario script guides the AI character during the conversation. It should describe:

  • The character’s personality and emotional state
  • Their background and situation
  • The context of the interaction
  • How the AI should respond to different types of questions or approaches

The more detail you provide, the more realistic and consistent the AI’s behaviour will be.

Checklist

You can create a custom checklist or import a Geeky Medics template and adapt it.

Checklist items should be:

  • Specific
  • Observable
  • Directly linked to scenario objectives

The AI uses this checklist to generate automarked scores.

Questions and answers (optional)

You can add optional post-scenario questions to assess a learner’s understanding or decision-making.

Learners answer these after the conversation ends.

Resources (optional)

You can add additional resources such as relevant links or a walkthrough explaining how the scenario should have been approached. These resources help learners review and consolidate their understanding.

Settings

In the Settings section you can:

  • Add tags for easier organisation
  • Set a time limit for the scenario
  • Configure access control
  • Assign the scenario to a Collection if you have collections enabled

These options help you organise scenarios effectively and control how they are accessed within your organisation.
