Articles on: Creating scenarios

What is a scenario?

Scenarios are the heart of SimChat. Each scenario sets up a simulated conversation by defining the AI character’s personality, the context and the goals for the learner.

As an organisation owner, you can create scenarios and publish them for your learners to use. You can write scenarios yourself or generate them with AI.

SimChat is designed to be flexible. Scenarios can cover almost any type of conversation your learners need to practise. Scenarios can represent clinical encounters, customer service conversations, coaching discussions, conflict resolution or any other real-world situation where communication skills are important.

Scenario components

Every scenario includes:

  • Title and description - What the scenario is about
  • Scenario type - The type of conversation (e.g. medical history taking, customer service scenario)
  • User instructions - What the learner sees before starting the scenario. Explains the context and objectives.
  • Script - The AI character's background, personality, and knowledge. This is what powers the AI's responses.
  • Checklist - Assessment criteria for evaluating learner performance
  • Questions (optional) - Follow-up questions asked after the conversation
  • Resources (optional) - Additional resources for the learner

How do users interact with a scenario?

Learners can complete scenarios in three modes:

  • Text: Learners type their responses and receive text-based replies from the AI character
  • Voice: Learners speak with the AI character using real-time voice interaction
  • Video: Learners interact with an AI-generated video character

Video mode uses video minutes, which organisations need to purchase separately.

SimChat does not require any software downloads. Learners can access scenarios directly through their web browser on either desktop or mobile. As long as they have an internet connection and a modern browser, SimChat should work without any additional setup.
