Understanding scenario types

Every scenario in SimChat is assigned a scenario type. Scenario types define how the AI behaves during the interaction and how the learner is assessed. They allow your organisation to create structured, predictable learning experiences tailored to specific communication tasks.

SimChat includes five built-in scenario types, and administrators can create custom types to meet their own training requirements.

What scenario types do

Scenario types control:

  • AI behaviour – how the AI character responds, the tone it uses and how strictly it stays in character
  • Interaction structure – how the conversation flows and what the learner is expected to achieve
  • Assessment logic – how checklists are interpreted and how feedback is generated
  • Templates – optional starting points for creating new scenarios within that type

Assigning the correct scenario type is important for generating accurate AI behaviour and meaningful feedback.

Built-in scenario types

SimChat provides five scenario types out of the box:

  • Medical: History taking
  • Medical: Counselling
  • Generic: Explanation
  • Generic: Interview
  • Generic: Customer service

These cover common communication contexts and include preconfigured AI behaviour suitable for those interactions.
